Professor Ghanchi graduated with MBBS in 1985 following which completed residency training in Ophthalmology in India, earning MS (Master of Surgery) Ophthalmology with top grades in 1989.  He undertook further training in UK from 1990 -1999, completing Higher Specialist training at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow.
Under Lachlan McNeil Scholarship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, he undertook sabbatical in retina vascular clinics with Professor S S Hayreh at University Hospital of Iowa in 1998.
He joined Bradford teaching Hospitals in 1999 and developed new medical retina service including the pioneering first PDT (Photodynamic Therapy) service for AMD in Yorkshire. He conceptualised and help establish the prestigious Yorkshire Retina Society ( as founder member.
He is a leading ophthalmologist, with extensive experience in cataract surgery and medical retinal disorders. He has been active contributor to various national bodies, past and present through his academic and research interests, such as:

·       Rat Hon. Secretary of State's Advisory Panel for Vision standards, DVLA
·       Examinations Committee, Royal College of Ophthalmologists
·       Scientific Committee, Royal College of Ophthalmologists
·       Vice lead, National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Ophthalmology.
·       Divisional Clinical Lead, (Div.6) NIHR Yorkshire & Humber, LCRN.
·       Section Editor: Eye (Royal College of Ophthalmologists' scientific journal)

Academic Interests:

Professor Ghanchi is active in clinical research especially in retinal disorders and imaging. He heads the Bradford Ophthalmology Research Network at the Bradford Teaching Hospitals where a number of research projects are run. He is Vice -Chair of the National Institute of Health Research Ophthalmology specialty group. 
He has contributed to many peer reviewed papers and currently is Section Editor of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists journal -eye. 
He has been fellowship  examiner for the FRCOphth and FRCS (Glasgow) exams.

Professor Ghanchi has been invited speaker at various national and international scientific meetings as well as patient group meetings.
